Carpet Installation Contractors

Store Employees or Independent Contractor?

Installation can be done by employees or subcontractors of the store or you can hire an independent contractor. Sometimes, hiring a contractor will save you money because stores and designers get a commission when a customer uses their recommended installers, raising your cost to cover that commission.

In any event, the store must send an estimator to your home to:

  • Measure the floors
  • Decide the layout: where to put seams, match patterns and lay carpet to prevent waste. Generally rolls are 12 feet wide so consider this when you decide where carpet seams should be.
  • Determine if you need a new subfloor or some repair work prior to the carpet installation.
